Fernie, the small town that packs a big punch
Fernie is like a warm hug and a good cup of coffee. As you roll into town, it has that small town warm welcome feel that is inviting and comforting.
Nestled in some beautiful mountains like the Three bears and Three Sisters, there are beautiful shops, dining, cafes and plenty of folks meandering on 2nd Ave.
The hub of town and this is where you will find some of my favorite shops. Looking for bike support, check out Gear hub or Straight line, How about a great cup of coffee, check out Rooftop coffee and Mud Oven. Some great dining experiences can be had at Navados and Loaf. There is also a great Pizza shop in the Annex called Graffito pizza. I’d highly recommend going there and call ahead to reserve your pizza.
Looking for a fun and rewarding hike? Be sure to check out the Three Bears and Goldilocks trail that starts right from Island Lodge. Estimate around 4 hours or so for a total time and maybe a bit more if you wish to spend more time admiring the views. It’s spectacular and well worth it. Check out this article about the group of women who developed the Goldilocks Trail that circles one of the bears at the top!
Mountain biking is out your front door and there are plenty of trails to be enjoyed at all levels. Don't forget your bear spray!
One of the most fun activities I've partaked so far is floating down Elk river! I’d recommend a little float boat and paddle over a tube for a more enjoyable experience.
Thanks to my friends Laura and Pete for making me feel so welcome and helping me settle in during my vacation. The warm and inviting spirit of Fernie is something everyone needs to enjoy in their lifetime.
