Since the beginning of April 2021, I had started packing up my world, preparing for multiple moves and heading towards self exploration and seeing new places.

In April I had sold my condo that I owned for 10 years and then my landlord was prepping to sell their house. It didn’t occur to me that I would pack up my life and most of my belongings in storage, and start travelling with my CX3 around Quebec, Canada.

But here we are. I’m in a café in Old Quebec, enjoying a cup of tea and reflecting on all the different steps it took me to get here.

There are many steps to get yourself organized for this type of move, but essentially it kicks off with this one thing; an idea.

When I started looking at the housing market in Gatineau, it occurred to me that I would find a hard time buying a home on my own. With this being expensive and competitive, I lacked a lot of eagerness to join in the bidding war rivals.

I asked myself;

  • Do I need or want to stay in Gatineau?

  • Where would I be willing to go?

  • What type of experience am I looking to have?

In speaking with my good friend, he mentioned to take a look near Quebec City as the inflation rates in this area were not that high as other major cities in Canada.

As most of you know I toured for the month of August out West and then I landed in Mont Sainte-Anne for a few months in the fall. I learned a lot about myself during my 2 months stay near the mountain.

I learned I was missing an energetic feeling of being around others.

Not the energy that where I need to spend every waking moment in someone else’s presence. I really like marching to the beat of my own drum, but I know I need to see people and be near some outdoor space.

These decisions guided me to Old Quebec and in the first 48hrs I knew that this was the right decision for me right now.

What lead me to this point in my life started with an idea. These ideas are not always easy. There is planning a big move, interim move(s) and then dealing with all the logistics of selling a place and working with someone else to sell their own place. It comes with some “stuff to deal with”, but the goal was to lighten the weight and make myself more mobile to try new places.

If you are looking around and hoping that change will fall on your lap, I think you will be waiting a long time. If you want to make life changing decisions you must start wherever you are, put one foot in front of the other and get started.

  • Get moving.

  • Execute on the 1st part of your plan.

Trust that you will end up where you’ll need to be. The where you end up may shift as you learn about yourself, but this is the exciting part of life.
