Kusawa Ridge Trail
No parking fees. Ensure that you pay if you are camping for the night.
Very limited cell coverage at the campsite. Some signal on the mountain.
Leashed dogs are permitted.
Imagine for a second you setup camp at one of the most beautiful places you can imagine and from there, you can take a dip in the lake during the daylight at 10pm, and then prepare yourself for a hike the next morning starting from your campsite. If this is your type of adventure, then Kusawa Ridge trail is just for you!
The campsites are mostly first come first serve. The Yukon campsite reservation system is starting to allow for a trial period to make reservations in advance. This campsite is at the end of a 15km drive from the highway and about 1hr from Whitehorse. It is well worth the drive as it offers stunning 360 views of the area.
When you start the hike it can be a bit confusing on where the trail entrance is. When you leave the campsite area you will come to a walking bridge within 5 minutes and just before you go to walk across the bridge, there will be an opening to the right hand side. Be sure to take the trail starting there and you will spend about 1.6km hiking up beside the creek.
There’s nothing too scrambly on this hike and for the most part it just has some pitchy areas were it will have you testing your cardio. We did see bears on the side of the mountain the day we were there, so as always, be sure to have some bear spray on hand and make noise when you can. There wasn’t a ton of traffic so It’s a good idea to be bear aware during this hike.
A wonderful hike with amazing views.
