How important is Mental Fitness?

The moment I decided to sign up for the TransRockies Gravel Royale, I knew I would have my work cut out for me. I knew within about 60 seconds that I wanted to sign up for this event and focus on training and preparing for my biggest fitness goal that I’ve had in 5 years.

The idea of putting myself out there and trying to achieve something completely new and unnerving is intriguing to me. When I decided to register, it was with curiosity not fear. I didn’t have a plan put in place in how to get reach this goal yet, but I knew I was ready to start.

I often believe the way to start forming new identity is to commit and work out the details later. Overthinking has only proven to make me overthink and focus on what I can’t do, instead of what I can.

What does it mean to work on mental fitness? How do we take a challenge and ask ourselves how we can turn this into something of sage, opportunity, and prosperity? I’ve taken a challenge that can offer so much richness to my life and it doesn’t go without work.

 -        Focusing on the support around me.

-        Reminding myself why I registered in the first place; to enjoy the journey of training and exploring a new place I’ve never been to.

-        Be compassionate towards my body and mind. It will break and I’ll question my ability, but to quickly turn that around and offer myself kindness and support.

-        Keep moving. Consistency has been my key towards any goal I’ve had.

As I’m navigating through trails and roads that challenge me, how can I get to a space of acceptance and peace?

-        Positive self-talk and compassion to where I am at in the moment.

-        Understand that this pain temporary and there is a reward on the other side of the hill.

-        Understand that this training is helping prepare for somethig bigger and that this is part of my learning process.

-        Embrace the unknown and lead with adventurous mind.

We break, we fall, and we crash. Working on your mental fitness will help you prevail through times of adversity and struggles. Work towards that identity you want to create for yourself, form consistent habits and follow your heart.

As soon as you hear the saboteurs take over, redirect and remind your mind that you are capable, strong, curious and deserving of success and happiness.

It can lead you to places like below. :)
