Downhill magic at Le Massif
If you are a mountain bike enthusiast, then you need to put Le Massif on your list as biking destinations!
With 13 trails that consist of 20km of downhill riding, you will most definitely have a fun and exciting ride during your time on the mountain. I consider myself an Intermediate rider. I have been mtb’ing for 4 years now and I am able to navigate enough of the blue trails and some reds without too much of a problem. I get off my bike when I know I’m out of my comfort zone, or I’m just to scared to try that bridge or obstacle ;) . My hardtail Prologue was the perfect fit for flying down the hills!
What is amazing about this trail system is that almost anyone can do this if you have spent a bit of time on a mountain bike. Most of the trails are green and blue, and the network doesn’t have too much in the way of obstacles that are out of reach for the above average beginner rider.
A few suggestions when you visit the trail:
Purchase your ticket online first.
When you arrive, you will need to get a card which is scanned to get up the gondola. so you do need to head into the ticket office to show your receipt.
There is not much in the way of climbing as you must take the gondola to get back to the top (Check out the FAQ’s on their website).
For your first run, I’d try “Easy Rider” and “6-Pack” to start. This will give you a feel of the trail system.
I would then recommend heading over to “Bus-Jaune” and this will BLOW YOUR MIND! To get to this trail expect about a 20-30 rolling climb to the other side of the mountain. This is a spectacular trail with less traffic, and you will cross over some hiking trails and see some happy folks walking up to catch the view.
You will head down “Histoire sans fin” and have the most fun on a bike imaginable.
For the faster riders, be patient and just let those in front of you know that you will pass. There’s no race here, so slow down and pass safely. To the less experienced, be aware and don’t slow down all the riders behind you and pull over when it’s safe.
Stop and enjoy the views. They are simply spectacular!
When you are done, you can enjoy a beer in the sunshine and watch the other riders head out for another spin. You can buy some snacks, sandwiches and drinks and sit out on the patio and enjoy your day.
